So, as I have a 3g Honda Accord, I keep an eye on the 3geez forums (forums and facebook), and every now and then I see things that make me wonder.

Kinja'd!!!

So apparently, this guy has a lowered Accord, and to do it made up his shocks like this. Apparently hes just going to weld a pipe that he bolts the shocks to, but um, doesn't this sound ridiculously fuckin dangerous? I mean, when you think of bad ideas and lowering, hasn't this sort of thing been covered !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I'm asking seriously because I don't know, could this work, and be safe? I've made it a personal rule to never fuck with the structural engineering of a car like that.

I just don't understand why everyone wants to lower their Accord so much. They are not the best handling cars to begin with, why make it worse?

It's stupidity. People just want to be "different" by being the same as something else they saw. They don't have the money the top tier of their aspirations do, so they half-ass and ruin their cars.

That's what I've noticed with these older Accords, either they are kept stock, they are made "hella flush", or they are stanced, and it sucks because these are actually pretty good cars. But, because they are cheap, you get a lot of people that really don't know what the hell they are doing.

Form over function

I don't care that 'hellaflush' idiots stance their cars. They think it looks cool, fine.

What I don't understand, and what makes me mad, is when they spend tons of money on performance items, then slam the car. WTF?! If you want the car to look cool, make it look cool, but why spend a bunch of money improving the car only to ruin it by killing the suspension.

I can just see this thing, after hitting the wrong pot hole, just shooting up and getting stuck midway through the roof of the car.

That's generally the problem with a lot of cheaper cars. Once they fall under a certain price the number of stupid people with them in their hands goes up dramatically and since they were cheap, they don't feel bad about ruining them.

I somewhat envy you for having a 3g. I want a coupe 88-89, but they are pratically dead here...

It just gets me every time, why make your car borderline undriveable?

Yeah that doesn't make sense to me either, like I was telling my wife last night these guys will spend thousands redoing their entire engine, and then do stupid crap like this, it's like, why?

Honestly that's why, when I sell my Accord I want to sell it to an enthusiast or donate it, and take the tax write off. Because once you go below 1000 dollars, you start dealing with a completely different type of person.

They aren't bad cars at all, but finding an SE-i is damn near impossible near me. There are a few LXi's, I got lucky and nabbed one. Where do you live at?

Montreal. If I could get a 1988 white Accord Coupe LX-i like my father had in my childhood with a manual transmission, I would jump on it!

Ah, I would be too far away from you then. I live in Northern VA. And mines an 86 hatch. Just keep your eyes open for them, one will pop up eventually, Honda made a ridiculous amount of them. And since LX-i's were one of the better trim (not to mention fuel injected) they tend to be in better condition.

But I need to almost check outside Canada. Salt made a genocide of them here.

Yeah, mine is rusted up a bit as well. Well, just take a look along the east coast of the US for one, should be able to find a late model 3g for under 1200, if you don't mind hte journey. Also check out the 3geez website, a site specifically for the 3g Accords, see if anyone is selling. The honda tech site might be worth checking out too.
